PART-TIME / IN-HOUSE BENCH JEWELER

*This position has the potential to grow to full-time. *

White Space Jewelry is seeking an experienced bench jeweler/diamond setter to join our growing studio in Westlake Village, CA. We are a busy and productive team that prizes creativity, hard work, and kindness. We do a large portion of jewelry design, preparation, fabrication, coordination, and accounts support in-house. Our team is nimble, innovative, and resourceful. We obsess about our customers and the quality of our work. We are looking for a talented bench jeweler with two years of experience in fine jewelry production environment to join us. You will work closely with the Creative Director, completing a wide range of tasks and pieces from samples and sketches. We are seeking an individual who is sharp, confident, takes pride in their bench work, and is a team player.

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Jewelers will use various tools and techniques to make jewelry from gold wire and castings, diamonds, pearls, precious /semi-precious gems, and other materials. Successful jewelers should be very comfortable working with a wide range of gems, pearls, soldering solid 14 - 18K gold wire, findings and castings, basic settings, assembly techniques, and finishes.
  • Bench jewelry production includes soldering, setting, gluing, polishing, assembling of final designs with close attention to detail.
  • Uphold a highly-organized, detail-oriented, and proactive routine.
  • Consistently deliver pieces in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and follow safety protocols.
  • Be willing to aid in the training of others and maintain all bench tools and equipment. 
  • Perform a pre-check on all assigned jewelry and note any unusual or missing item condition(s). 
  • Ensure all precious metals, stones, and findings are controlled to reduce expenses and increase profit. 
  • Remove all scrap gold and other metals from benches nightly for recovery.
  • Maintain assigned work in an organized manner and maintain an accurate log of all completed orders. 
  • Advise management of areas of concern regarding processing, work capacity, and merchandise quality issues. 
  • Develop product knowledge and grow technical skills as they apply to our quality standards. 

 Qualifications / Skills:

A minimum of two years of jewelry production experience

Soldering - experience with smaller pieces

Stone setting – flush, bezel, and prong

Finishing – sanding, and polishing

Stone setting – U-pave/bead (wish list)

Laser welding experience (wish list)

The ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and quality-driven environment

Capacity to handle a high volume of work quickly and accurately

Does not mind getting dirty

Excellent communication skills

Ability to stand or sit at bench equipment for long periods

FULL-TIME / IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION MANAGER 

We are looking for a smart, proactive self-starter, who brings a warm, positive attitude, and an aptitude for organization and efficiency to join our growing WSJ team. The creativity, passion, and hard work that drive our brand is a team effort. We are not looking for average. We are on the hunt for a competent professional who can oversee the production process; can manage the brand’s steady growth, and facilitate the expansion of WSJ product offerings. We are looking for a team player who is skilled at building relationships, knows how to drive performance, and can help develop and manage the product roadmap. This position works directly with the Creative Director/CEO in a fast-paced but fun atmosphere. 

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Production: Responsible for receiving, sorting, processing materials for inventory and production orders. Maintain and execute production schedules to ensure prompt fulfillment of all orders and jobs. Consult and review all incoming orders and prepare technical needs. Manage all steps of the production process to fulfill wholesale and direct orders including invoicing, picking, production, packing, and shipping.
  • Inventory Management: Coordinate supply ordering, inventory, and equipment procurement. Maintain and update database of manufacturing costs and pricing for all product offerings, keeping close control over production costs ensuring margins are met or exceeded. Monitor and report on company performance to ensure quality and productivity goals are achieved; anticipate and manage pipeline and product flow accordingly. 
  • Quality Control: Facilitate a smooth-running production line and studio experience that produces beautiful, timely, quality-driven work. Perform quality control of all pieces from both a structural and aesthetic perspective. Ensure presentation, organization, and cleanliness of the studio. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Brand aesthetic.
  • Brand Ambassador: Serve as liaison between studio, retail shops, and wholesale reps maintaining a standard of exceptional professionalism at all times.Work with our network of vendors to ensure timely delivery and uninterrupted production flow. Be point-of-contact for customers (in person, phone, email, etc.) to help them with questions regarding products, services, and policies.

 Qualifications / Skills:

2+ years experience with jewelry production

SHORT-TERM / FINE JEWELRY PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT 

We are looking for a production consultant to help coordinate and manage the steady growth of the brand and the expansion of WSJ product offerings.Specifically, our goal is to partner with an industry veteran to identify ways to optimize our production line, create an efficient, smooth-running studio, and advise on strategies to develop and manage the product roadmap. We are looking for an expert tochampion the implementation of new processes and progress by removing roadblocks and providing the appropriate support to maximize opportunities, meet targets, and scale growth. Must be knowledgeable of fine jewelry and well-versed in eCommerce and wholesale best practices. Consulting project: 2+ months.

 

Consultation includes (but not limited to):

  • Dissect and analyze our eCommerce and wholesale production methods: inventory management, sourcing of materials, fabrication, production, packaging, and shipping. 
  • Propose improvements to streamline company workflows. 
  • Review and analyze production efficiency, lead times, risks, losses, and quality control metrics. Thoughtfully offer options and solutions to meet design intent and margin targets.
  • Examine the sourcing of materials for production from current and external vendors. Analyze the best value and timing for the company.
  • Advise on best practices for fulfilling wholesale and direct orders concurrently, including invoicing, picking, production, packing, and shipping.
  • Consult on the best way to develop and diversify vendor-base.
  • Identify how best to improve efficiency and lead times for all production operations.
  • Pinpoint and address key issues and challenges in production and plan accordingly to deliver high-quality products. Create a “corrective action strategy” when experiencing difficulties or delays.
  • Consult and review production schedules to ensure optimal fulfillment of all orders and jobs. 
  • Find efficient ways to push orders through in the shortest amount of time without sacrificing quality.
  • Advise on quality control best practices to ensure prompt delivery of error-free pieces to the client’s exact specifications.
